The weight of the rider is probably the first consideration when buying a scooter. You have to fit the scooter to yourself before you can determine which one will work best indoors or outdoors. Of course the scooter should be able to accommodate the weight of the rider as indicated by the manufacturers specifications but it is important to understand whether the manufacturer is refering to the "maximum weight" which is the highest weight the scooter can carry without structural damage or the "rated weight" which is generally less than the maximum weight. The manufacturer should be able to verify this for you and almost all use a rated weight which will allow a little variance. This might seem a little picky but if you buy a scooter and you exceed the maximum weight, you're SOL if you damage it. As a rule of thumb, it is always better to choose a scooter which accomodates more than your weight. Larger scooters are built to withstand more weight with a stronger design and more power to accomodate larger riders. Weight usually becomes a more important consideration as the weight of the rider increases.
